Dawson Municipal Airport (16J)
18 miles Northwest of Albany is the Dawson Municipal Airport. We are thirty minutes from Plains, the home of President Jimmy Carter and twenty minutes from Parrott a quaint little town where the movie, “The Lone Riders”, was filmed. Terrell County is comprised of four cities, Bronwood, Dawson, Parrott, and Sasser. The county is full of hunting, antiques, shopping, history, and festivals.
Dawson Municipal Airport is a fast growing airport in Southwest Georgia. Presently with an average of sixty-five aircrafts based here. Runways 13 and 31 are 4510 feet long with PAPI and VOR approach to runway 31. The runways are operational 24 hours a day; lights are radio controlled on Unicom frequency, office hours are 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The airport is in the process of expanding, recently purchasing 23 additional acres of land. Expansion plans include a new administration building, additional hangar space and adding a new fuel farm which will include 100 LL and jet fuel. Also, included in the expansion plans is adding additional ramp area, lengthening the runway and adding a full length parallel taxiway.
A new construction was just completed on a new facility for RCL Flying Service, a local spraying company. The facility consists of 7500 square foot building, to serve as a loading area for water, fertilizer storage tanks, chemical storage area, and an aircraft hangar.
The Dawson Municipal Airport hosts several businesses on property. Garner Air Service, Inc. offers 100 LL 24 hour, seven days a week self-service fuel. Hayes Aircraft Maintenance and Dawson Aviation Maintenance offer general maintenance. Skyway Avionics recently received a FAA certification as a FAA avionics repair station. The Dawson Flying Club offers flight training to its members and also has an aircraft sales broker on the field, Southern Aircraft Sales.
A courtesy car for pilots during office hours and with prior planning is available for use after hours.
